:: Yarn Along ::

Joining Ginny, over at small things, again with yarn along. A single photo of a current knitting or crocheting project with a current read. I am really loving these posts, taking a moment to think about what and why I'm knitting or reading. I read...a lot. And I knit...not as much as I'd like but I do have 2-4 projects going either on the needles or in my brain. Leave a comment to share your yarn along.

On the needles :: a sweater for #2. He's been very patient for a mama-made anything. I finally got a hat done for him a couple of months ago. We went looking for yarn to make Mr. Wiedz a sweater and found this Patons in mercury. Mr. Wiedz didn't love it. I asked the boys if any of them were interested in a sweater in this color and #2 spoke up first. (#3 is waiting for a cool green color.) I cast on with the pattern for the kids vest in More Last Minute Knitted Gifts, but now he's decided he wants a sweater. I think I'll use the percentage method and figure out a sweater as I go. I figure I have quite awhile of stockinette stitch before I need to worry too much.

On the nightstand :: Lydia's Charm. A nice fiction read with interesting characters set in an Amish community in Ohio. It's an easy read that I'm enjoying.

History is Alive :: Seed Mosaics

Stepping a little out of chrology but with the intention of giving the students a broader look at history, history (even ancient history) isn't happening in just one place, we had a chapter on early people of the Americas. There was also a neat overview of the different parts of South America, Central America and North America.

As a craft we made seed mosaics.

#2 chose to depict the story we read during our lesson, "Rabbit Shoots the Sun". Love it.

A sweater for Miss T

I finished the sweater for Miss T a few weeks ago. I had missed her birthday and didn't want to mail it. I just had to see her try it on and see her mom when she got it. They were able to stop by the other day after an appointment in my town so I got to give it to her.

As a two year old, she wasn't too interested. On the other hand, her mother was thrilled and I was over the moon! My first sweater! Finished!

Pattern: Tiny Tea Leaves by Madelinetosh
Size: I made the size 2 since that's what Miss T measured at but it was even still a little big. I think I knit big. But there is room to grow and it's not so big that it's obnoxious.
Yarn: Vanna by Lion Brand, I think it's called light pink but it looks really like a dusty rose.
Buttons: LOVE the buttons! From Apples and Eggs! Perfect! And they arrived so quickly. It was a great experience buying something off etsy to complete this project.

Rowing :: Yellow Ball

We "rowed" Yellow Ball by Molly Bang last week. An out of print book apparently as the link will take you to the amazon listing asking $51.89 for a used book. I was unaware of its rare status as there were many copies at our library...didn't know had I wanted to buy it would be out of my price range. It is a delightful book. Simple words. Beautiful pictures. All of our favorite part was the storm...

We had a nice week with this book. The above photo is of #3's pastel drawing of the cover. He did a pretty great job though had to add some more color (the green and purple do not appear on the actual cover - artistic interpretation).

Painting ::

I got out the paint again for this book and let them use different balls around the house as their "brushes". It wasn't as popular as I would have thought. There was plenty of paint on their tee shirts though!

Special Memory ::

I don't know if this will last as a special memory in thier minds but my boys do like balls and Winco had perfect yellow balls right before Easter. On Friday, after a week of reading and enjoying this book, I gave each of the boys a yellow ball.

Project :: knitted bunnies

I set out to knit these bunnies for the little boys to go along with our "rowing" ABC Bunny. But they didn't get done for that. And I thought they would go well with our next "row", Goodnight Moon. Not then either. I knew we had one more bunny book coming up.

The saddest thing was that they sat completely knitted and embroidered but without stuffing or closed up for WEEKS!

In a surge of project completed-ness around here I stuffed them and stitched them closed and made pom poms for the backs.

So cute. Really so much easier than I represent here with taking me months to complete them. They are small and really knit up quick.

I presented them to the boys at the end of "rowing" The Little Rabbit.
